Pre-Kindergarten

A joyful, confidence-building introduction to learning.

A Strong Start for Curious Young Learners

Pre-Kindergarten at Trellis Academy is designed to help children feel safe, known, and excited about learning. Through play, exploration, stories, and relationships, students build early academic skills while developing confidence, independence, and joy in discovery. Learning is intentionally paced and developmentally appropriate, honoring childhood while laying important foundations.

Students learn classroom routines, self-regulation, and confidence in trying new things. With guidance and encouragement, children practice following directions, managing transitions, and taking responsibility for their learning environment.

Children build early literacy, language, numeracy, and problem-solving skills through hands-on activities, storytelling, and play-based learning. Instruction focuses on curiosity and understanding rather than performance or pressure.

Students develop communication skills, empathy, and cooperation as they learn to work and play alongside peers. Kindness, patience, and respect are practiced daily within a supportive classroom community.

Trellis Academy offers both 4-day and 5-day program options for Pre-K students, allowing families to choose the rhythm that best supports their child’s needs and family schedule.

The 4-day Pre-K option provides a consistent school rhythm while allowing one weekday for rest, family time, appointments, or other early childhood needs.

The 5-day Pre-K option provides a full weekly schedule for families who prefer daily consistency, additional classroom time, and a steady school routine throughout the week.

Please note: Kindergarten through Grade 4 follow Trellis Academy’s 5-day program schedule.

Rae Klein is a second-generation teacher with a passion for creating engaging, student-centered learning experiences.

She studied at Bennington College before transferring to Texas A&M University at Galveston, where she focused on marine biology and fisheries.

Ms. Rae has a background in both Montessori and Reggio-inspired education. She believes strongly in giving students ownership of their studies and classroom environment, encouraging self-paced learning and allowing children to take an active role in their education.

She is also a firm believer that nature is one of the best teachers, and you’ll often find her taking learning beyond the classroom and teaching outside.

Ms. Rae loves science, nature, SCUBA diving, and cooking. When she’s not on the water, you’ll most likely find her digging in the dirt with her daughter.
